GTC Spring Technology Certificate Kick Off

We began our Spring Technology Certificate Workshop Series with introductions and briefly discussed why GTC members were interested in taking a technology workshop series; a broad range of expertise and varied motivations abounded.  It was exciting to meet all of the new participants and see several returning faces.  The breadth of experience ranging from those who have taught traditional classrooms for years, to those with lots of technology experience and all points in between, was impressive.  This spectrum is fertile ground for the workshop series.

While many expressed lack of familiarity with and a sense of intimidation around technology, Robert and Donnelly pondered the inner workings of the Technology Tower of Terror. It seemed Lisa would never get to introduce herself via video…

Then, Chris, an IT expert for the LAWR, arrived! He was just in time to trouble-shoot the video/audio  issues. It was both gratifying and humbling to watch Chris pursue many of the same techniques our less experienced techies had attempted. Some of his most valuable, yet simple, trouble shooting advice was “When in doubt, restart.”

We were finally able to both see and hear Lisa connect remotely to introduce herself to the group via adobe connect!

Chris then proceeded to lead the Totally Awesome Technology Tower Adventure (TATTA Box – for life science lovers) and explained some possible applications (video conferencing, adobeconnect, etc) for such technologies.  He mentioned a website that listed the tech-capabilites of classrooms on campus as well as rental equipment both of which can be reached from the Information & Educational Technology page. Chris also fielded questions about funding/upgrading concerns.

Please don't for get to visit the Google doc and sign in if you were present during the first meeting.
